JAKARTA - The number of passenger traffic in 13 airports managed by Angkasa Pura Airports continued to increase along with the continued development of the company. In the first quarter of 2018, there was an increase of 10% of passenger traffic over the same period in 2017.

"Angkasa Pura Airports continues to develop the airport to trigger and anticipate the growth potential of passengers each year. Development is also carried out to maintain service standards to airport service users,"said by the President Director of Angkasa Pura Airports, Faik Fahmi.

In the first quarter of 2018, passenger traffic at 13 airports of Angkasa Pura Airports was recorded at 22.38 million people, up 10% over the same period in 2017 which reached 20.35 million people. The highest passenger traffic occurred at Airport I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali with 5.16 million passengers or contribute about 23% of total passenger traffic at Angkasa Pura Airports airport. This number grew 6.95% over the same period last year which amounted to 4.83 million people.

The second highest traffic in this quarter occurred at Juanda Airport Surabaya with total traffic of 4.98 million people or about 22% from the airport traffic total of Angkasa Pura Airports. This number grew 8.23% over the same period last year which amounted to 4.6 million people.

The highest passenger traffic growth occurred at Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang with growth of 18.79% to 1.19 million people from 1 million people in the first quarter of last year. The second highest growth occurred at Frans Kaisiepo Biak Airport, which was 17.96% to 116,925 passengers from 99,119 passengers in the first quarter of 2017. Meanwhile, Adisutjipto Airport Yogyakarta experienced the third highest passenger growth with a 17.5% growth in the first quarter of 2018 to 1.98 million people from 1.69 million people in the same period the previous year.

Looking at this growth trend and the lack condition of capacity especially in high-growth airports such as Adisutjipto Airport Yogyakarta, Ahmad Yani Airport Semarang and others; Angkasa Pura I is in the process of developing and even building new airports. For example the new terminal of Ahmad Yani Airport Semarang which is planned to be operated in June 2018 so that it can serve the flow of Lebaran 2018 mudik.

For your information, the ideal capacity of Ahmad Yani Airport Semarang can only accommodate 800 thousand passengers per year. While in 2017, traffic passengers Ahmad Yani Airport Semarang has reached 4.4 million people. "Therefore Angkasa Pura I built a new terminal in the north of the runway with the concept of eco-green airport," Faik Fahmi said.

In addition, the airport being built at this time to facilitate the growth of passengers is the New International Airport Yogyakarta in Kulonprogo where most flights to Yogyakarta will be transferred to the airport from Adisutjipto Airport Yogyakarta. Adisutjipto Airport's ideal capacity is to accommodate 1.7 million passengers a year. But in 2017, traffic passengers this airport has reached 7.8 million people.

In 2018, Angkasa Pura Airports allocates 18.8 trillion IDR for airport development and maintenance funding, of which Rp 14.8 trillion is used for airport development and 4 trillion IDRis used for routine operations. "To support and encourage traffic growth, Angkasa Pura Airports develops almost all of the managed airports. Some of them are the New Yogyakarta International Airport Development Project in Kulonprogo, Syamsuddin Noor Banjarmasin Airport Development Project, and Ahmad Yani Airport Development Project in Semarang where the three airports are included in the national strategic project (PSN). The investment fund for these three airport projects in 2018 is 5.2 trillion IDR,"Faik Fahmi said.

In addition to three airports, other airports developed in 2018 were Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Makassar, Juanda Airport Surabaya, Praya Airport Lombok, Railway Station of Adi Soemarmo Airport Solo, Sam Ratulangi Airport Manado, and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Bali. [DR]
