Increasing Tourism Potential In East Java, Angkasa Pura Airports Held FGD Collaborative Destination Development

SURABAYA - In order to increase the tourism potential in East Java, Angkasa Pura Airports organized Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Collaborative Destination Development (CDD) with the theme "Developing East Java's Tourism in Welcoming One Million Foreign Tourist Arrival by 2025" with tourism stakeholders such as East Java Provincial Government, airlines, tourism observers, academics, and tourism industry players on Monday (14/5) at JW Marriot Hotel Surabaya.

CDD is a program initiated by Angkasa Pura Airports since 2015 in the form of collaboration forums of various national and regional tourism industry stakeholders to jointly develop the tourism sector and carry out tourism services in Eastern Indonesia, particularly in the work area of ​​Angkasa Pura Airports. This effort is done to help the central government in achieving the target of 20 million foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in 2019

"Implementation of CDD in Surabaya is the second implementation after the implementation of the first time in 2017. By focusing on the discussion of acceleration and development of infrastructure in East Java, it is hoped this year's CDD could be one of the triggers for the future of Angkasa Pura Airports and stakeholders of tourism industry in East Java can synergize to develop East Java tourism,"said by Director of Marketing and Services Angkasa Pura Airports Devy Suradji.

Previously, in the implementation of CDD Surabaya in 2017, has been agreed on several things by the stakeholders of the East Java tourism industry. Some of them were the development of tourist destinations in East Java through the expansion of natural and artificial tourism by Bappeda of East Java; air transport companies / airlines that will enhance synergies with travel agency associations by offering promos and attractive packages to attract more domestic and foreign tourists; strategic tourism development in Bromo, Tengger, Semeru, Sumenep region, and tourism awareness extension in some districts by Department of Culture and Tourism of East Java Province. Meanwhile, Angkasa Pura Airports contributed to the provision of stimulus in the form of incentives for airlines who want to add routes to and from Angkasa Pura Airports’ airports.

For information, Juanda – Surabaya International Airport in 2017 has served 20,13 million passenger movements in which this number increased by 3.29% compared to 2016 which was 19.48 million passengers; 148,735 airplane movements increased 0.09% compared to 2016 with 148,596 aircraft movements; and 97,657 tons of cargo which increased 1.43% compared to the previous year which reached 96,280 tons.

In the first quarter of 2018, the traffic of Juanda Airport passengers reached 4.99 million passengers which increased 8.23% compared to the first quarter of 2017 which reached 4.6 million passenger movements. Meanwhile, aircraft traffic in the first quarter of this year is 38,364 aircraft movements, an increase of 9.37% compared to the movement of aircraft in the same period in 2017 which amounted to 35,077 aircraft movement. While the number of cargoes served in the first quarter of 2018 is 25,433 tons, up 7.38% over the same period in 2017 which amounted to 23,686 tons.

To support the target of 1 million foreign tourists to East Java, East Java Provincial Government in early 2018 held the launch of 50 Top Culture and Tourism Event 2018. Almost every district and city in East Java created an international-class event in which several events come in 100 Wonderful Event Indonesia set by the Ministry of Tourism. Some events were Jember Fashion Carnival and Banyuwangi Ethno Carnival. For information, in 2017, the number of foreign tourists visiting East Java reached 625,729 people, meanwhile domestic tourists reached 58.65 million people.

"In building a tourism destination we should pay attention to 3A, namely Attraction, Access, and Amenity. Therefore, with the CDD Program together we can make a solution as well as innovation to develop these three things. We are optimistic with the potential of East Java and good cooperation between tourism stakeholders, we will be able to increase the number of tourist visits East Java Province," Devy Suradjisaid.

Angkasa Pura Airports as airport operator fully supports the government's plans and targets to bring tourists to East Java province, one of them by providing incentives to airlines that open new routes and increase the frequency of flying. The incentive is a 50% discount landing fee to the airline for 6 months, free promotion fee at the airport for 1 month, and flight inauguration.

"This landing fee incentive is expected to attract airlines to open new routes from and to East Java via Juanda – Surabaya Airport," Devy stated further.

With a good collaboration between Angkasa Pura Airports as airport operators as well as the gateway of tourists to East Java, airlines as passenger carriers, tourism businesses, and national and local government support are expected to have a positive impact on economic and tourism growth in East Java Province .

 

Increasing Airport Security Related to Bomb Explosion in Surabaya

Related to the bomb blast at several worship houses in Surabaya last Sunday (13/5), Angkasa Pura Airports did an increasement in security to prevent similar incidents in airport public spaces.

“We conduct safety and security program to prevent any bombing action or other terror action at airport public facililities, as a vital object facilities of the state,” said Faik Fahmi, The President Director od Angkasa Pura Airports.

Several actions to improve security have been done by Angkasa Pura Airports since yesterday (Sunday, 13/5) to increase the intensity of walking patrol at some point, conducting profiling through CCTV, together with Satgaspam to conduct random check for the vehicles which heading to and will enter the airport area, patrols with the Satgaspam by lowering the canine unit (K9) in the terminal area, and coordinating with external security agencies to mitigate potential threats to the airport.

"On the occurrence of this terrorist act in Surabaya, our management and all employees of Angkasa Pura I are deeply grieving to the victims and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are for the victims, and may God gives them strength and fortitude. We condemn all acts, methods and practices of terrorism,” Faik Fahmi added. [DR]
