Topping Off, New Terminal Ahmad Yani Airport Semarang Starts To Operate In May 2018

SEMARANG, February 11, 2018 - PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) has done topping off the new terminal of Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang on Sunday (11/2) witnessed by SOE Minister Rini Soemarno, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and Governor Central Java Ganjar Pranowo. The new terminal of Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang was planned to start operating (minimum requirements) in May 2018. The operation of this new airport terminal addresses the problem of lack of capacity that has been going on since the last few years.

"This topping off is our commitment to the service users of the airport as well as the people of Central Java in general and Semarang and its surrounding areas in particular to improve airport services by giving priority to comfort without putting aside the safety and security aspects. Topping off is also a form of our contribution to the development of the regional economy, especially Semarang and surrounding areas,"said by President Director of PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) Faik Fahmi.

The operation of the new terminal and the development of the airport worth 2.07 trillion IDR was a solution to the problem of lack of capacity that has lasted for several years. Ahmad Yani Airport's existing capacity can only accommodated 800 thousand passengers per year, but its realization in 2017 already served 4.4 million passengers.

"With a new terminal capacity that can accommodate up to 6 million passengers per year and designs that adopt the concept of eco-green airport, the potential passengers of aircraft can be more flexible and comfortable in the new terminal. The potential for passenger growth of 10 percent annually can also be accommodated by the presence of new terminals and infrastructure of Ahmad Yani Airport,"Faik Fahmisaid.

The new terminal of Ahmad Yani Airport has an area of 58,652 square meters, almost nine times larger than the existing terminal extent of only 6,708 square meters. The new apron area reaches 72,522 square meters which can accommodate 13 narrow body planes or the configuration of 10 narrow body planes and 2 aircraft wide body cargo. Ahmad Yani Airport will be positioned as a business and industrial airport.

Airport with the First Floating Terminal in Indonesia and Delivering Eco-Green Airport Concept

Airport Ahmad Yani Semarang delivering the concept of floating airport combined with the concept of eco-green airport, making this airport as the airport with the first floating terminal in Indonesia. It is called a floating airport because the new terminal of Ahmad Yani Airport is built on soft land and is mostly aquatic by using piles and prefabricated vertical drain (PVD) methods to compact the softland. PVD itself is an artificial drainage system installed in soft soil layers.

The new terminal design of Ahmad Yani Airport adopted the concept of eco-airport where the airport was planned, developed and operated with the aim of creating environmentally friendly means and pre-transportation facilities and contributing positively to the environment. Eco-Airport is a motion initiative to adopt an eco-friendly airport management approach, in which to make clear measurements of some components that have the potential to impact on the environment.

Through the application of eco-airport concept is expected airport operations can prevent the occurrence of pollution (pollution preventive). The components of eco-airport management and environmental monitoring consist of noise, vibration, air, soil, solid waste, energy, aviation safety and public health or other natural environment.

The new terminal building to the north of the existing runway mostly stands above the water and surrounded by ponds, ranging from terminal buildings, parking buildings, and wetland park areas. This is intended to accommodate the land context that was previously a swamp land. In the area of the airport is also planted 24 thousand mangrove seeds to support environmental conservation that can bring many features, both from the physical, ecological, and economic aspects. The existence of mangrove forest in the vicinity of the airport can be developed as a natural tourism object.

In addition to eco-airport, this airport is also targeted to get Gold Certificate from Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) where current design aspect Ahmad Yani Airport is in the process of obtaining Gold Certification Design Recognition from GBCI.

Target of Operation in May 2018

The new terminal of Ahmad Yani Airport is targeted to operate with minimum requirements (minimum requirements) in May 2018 so that it can serve passengers during homecoming and Lebaran holiday in June. The minimum requirements are passenger terminal, one floor parking building, cargo terminal, mosque, Accident Flight and Fire Department (PKP-PK) building. While the full operation of Ahmad Yani Airport is targeted to be done in early 2019.

The development project of Ahmad Yani International Airport Semarang with total value of Rp 2.07 trillion consists of five work packages. Package 1 consists of land work and access road. Package 2 consists of apron and taxiway work. Package 3 consists of terminal construction work. Package 4 consists of construction work of supporting buildings and landscapes. Package 5 consists of water management work.

For information, one and two job packages have been realized 100 percent. The three work packages (terminals) are fully completed by November 2018. The four work packages (supporting buildings) and five (water management) are fully completed by 2019. [DR]
