Angkasa Pura Airports Ready To Support The Success Of Annual Meeting of IMF and World Bank 2018 in Bali

Jakarta, March 17, 2018- Angkasa Pura Airports supported the success of International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meeting and World Bank which will be conducted from October 8 to 14, 2018 in Bali. The preparation was to increase the capacity of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport and to build the infrastructure of five other airports owned by Angkasa Pura Airports.

"I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport is the main gateway for state guests on IMF and World Bank meetings in October 2018. This world economic meeting will be attended by 17,000 delegates from 189 countries, including 189 Finance Ministers, 189 Heads of Central Banks , and 23 heads of state. To that, Angkasa Pura Airports is ready to welcome the grand event and try to prepare various facilities so that the transfer of transportation modes on the day of arrival and the return of guests can run smoothly and comfortably, "said by Angkasa Pura Airports President Director, Faik Fahmi.

The increase of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport capacity was done through the apron expansion so that parking stand capacity became 64 parking stand from existing condition as much as 53 parking stand.

Besides, the addition of 2 rapid exit taxiway to a total of 4 from 2 rapid exit taxiway. "It is expected that with the addition of 2 rapid exit taxiway this can increase the capacity of aircraft movement from 30 aircraft per hour to 33 aircraft per hour," Faik Fahmi said.

Similarly, the international check-in counter will be expanded and added from 96 units of check-in counters covering an area of ​​2,470 square meters to 126 units with an area of ​​4,420 square meters. In terms of vehicle parking on the land side, its capacity increased by 1,600 units.

"The addition of rapid exit taxiway, apron expansion, and temporary overlay of the runway during the annual IMF and World Bank annual meetings will add passengers up to 22,650 passengers per day, and the total will exceed the estimated delegates who will attend as many as 17,000," Faik Fahmi said.

As a precaution if the movement of aircraft exceeds the Apron capacity of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport, Angkasa Pura Airports has prepared an expansion program of alternative airports to increase the amount of parking capacity of the aircraft / parking stand. The expanding airports are:

  1. Juanda Airport Surabaya with additional number of parking stand for 7 narrow body or 3 wide body.
  2. Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Makassar with the addition of number of parking stand for 6 narrow body or 3 wide body.
  3. Lombok Praya Airport with the addition of parking stand for 8 narrow body or 4 wide body.
  4. Adi Soemarmo Airport Solo with additional number of parking stand for 6 narrow body or 3 wide body.
  5. El Tari Airport Kupang with the addition of 5 small aircraft.

To target this apron expansion, Juanda Airport Surabaya, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Makassar, and Lombok Praya Airport were targeted to be completed and start operation in October 2018. As for Adi Soemarmo Airport Solo and El Tari Airport Kupang can be completed and start operating in September and August 2018 .

To ensure the smooth and comfortable arrival and return of state guests, the Ministry of Transportation also provided support by expanding the apron of Blimbingsari Airport Banyuwangi to accommodate 4 narrow body planes and 2 ATR planes.

"With the support and contribution from various parties, it is expected that this world economic meeting event, especially related to transportation service in Bali Airport can run smoothly, safely and comfortably," Faik Fahmi said.
